Son's Gonna Rise by Citizen Cope, Goin Home by Thomas Hart Benton, and the Grapes of Wrath are all directly related. Son's Gonna Rise has a line that says, "In a mile you will see. After me. You'll be out of the dark, yeah. You'll get your shot" I think that introduces this idea of your going to this new place of both hope and new opportunity. Though the painting is entitled "Goin Home" it looks as if they are just going somewhere different, somewhere farther away. Thats what made me think of The Grapes of Wrath. There is the family of the Joads that had to leave everything to go to a far away place, and hopefully are presented with new opportunities. That is the relationship I see between these three things.
